Gloriana Waters Exhibits Fluency in Human Resources and Education
Ms. Waters' appearance on the cover of Profit Magazine is her greatest career achievement to date
NEW YORK, NY, December 21, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Gloriana Waters, Vice Chancellor of Human Resources Management for CUNY, has been named Cambridge Who's Who Professional of the Year in Human Resources Management. While inclusion in the Cambridge Who's Who Registry is an honor, only a small selection of members in each discipline are chosen for this distinction. These special honorees are distinguished based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements, leadership abilities, years of service, and the credentials they have provided in association with their Cambridge Who's Who membership.
With more than 30 years' experience working in higher education, Ms. Waters is considered an expert in public sector human resources. Through her cornucopia of past positions in the educational system, she has demonstrated specialties that include executive compensation, affirmative action and diversity, strategic initiatives and operations supervision. In her current position as vice chancellor of human resources, she is responsible for overseeing human resource policies and procedures for the university system, which includes 38,000 employees at 23 campuses and units. Further, she supervises university-wide employee benefits, payroll, classification and compensation, diversity HR strategy and civil service operations.
A compassionate and knowledgeable individual, Ms. Waters has made numerous professional presentations, most notably at the Asian American (AAARI) Leadership Conference, CUNY Financial Management, and CUPA-HR annual conferences. Having started her career as a remedial reading teacher, she gathered various perspectives on industry techniques, and implemented them in her subsequent responsibilities at a community college and two senior colleges. Ms. Waters' willingness to take risks and assume new positions has furthered her career in the educational system; she acquired roles such as deputy to the president, assistant to the vice president of administration, budget analyst and GED counselor. Her persevering temperament is reflective of her intrigue in Mahatma Gandhi, whose strategies for remaining focused in light of daunting challenges have greatly impacted her work ethic.
In her most recent interview with Cambridge Who's Who, Ms. Waters cited her appearance on the cover of Profit Magazine which recognized her role in the implementation of CUNYfirst, an enterprise-wide information system. She also described her critical decision-making involvement with the implementation team for CUNYfirst as a particularly gratifying experience. With two master's degrees in educational psychology and public administration, Ms. Waters not only retains industry experience, but she is well versed through her schooling as well. She also holds a certification from the Institute for Educational Management at Harvard University.
Crediting her success to the influence of her mentors, Ms. Waters is recognized as an Advisory Board member of TIAA-CREF, a Trustee of Cooperative Personnel Services and a Governing Body member of the 2010 New York HR Executive Leadership Summit. She maintains affiliation with the College and University Professional Association for Human Resources and Society for Human Resource Management. In the future, she intends to continue to contribute to the field of human resources in higher education; with an open minded attitude, she would welcome a position in consulting outside of New York.
