FORT SMITH, NT, CANADA, December 27, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- John Carter, Chief Executive Officer of Salt River First Nation 195, has been named a Cambridge Who's Who Professional of the Year in Government. While inclusion in the Cambridge Who's Who Registry is an honor, only a small selection of members in each discipline are chosen for this distinction. These special honorees are distinguished based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements, leadership abilities, years of service, and the credentials they have provided in association with their Cambridge Who's Who membership.

Mr. Carter possesses extensive management experience in the private, military and public sectors. In addition, he has spent nearly three decades in board governance as a volunteer, elected executive and salaried executive in various professional and nonprofessional organizations. Today, he serves as the CEO of Salt River First Nation 195, an Indian reservation located in the Northwest Territories of Canada. His role entails overseeing administration of the land, human resources, finance, public relations, and a HeadStart program for youth. Mr. Carter attributes his success to his hard work and determination.

Prior to serving in this capacity, Mr. Carter was the CEO of the Yellowknives Dene First Nation and prior to that was the Assistant Comptroller-General of the Government of the Northwest Territories for 10 years. Mr. Carter, who holds an MBA from the University of Ottawa, is also a Certified Aboriginal Financial Manager and a Fellow of the Certified General Accountants of Canada. He is a director of the Aboriginal Financial Officers Association of Canada and a member of the Affiliation Council of the Certified General Accountants of Canada.
